Using The Sun To Power Your Rv
One of the most wonderful things about Americana is the weekend tradition of vacationing in an RV. And one neat way you can do this is to have the sunlight power your RV while having one heck of a time away from work!
The Sun Is Omnipresent!
Solar power is all about using panels to deliver electricity to your home, isn’t it? Au contraire! There have been new technological advances that will eventually allow you to use solar power by painting your home. But that may happen in about three years from now – so how can you use it in the present?
Solar power can certainly be used in this present day to help your RV’s engine take you to where you need to be. Whether you are going camping or to a NASCAR race, it is an exceedingly simple process.
RVs use direct current (DC) electricity to run, unlike homes which use AC. RVs are just the right vehicle for solar power, because solar produces DC electricity instead of the conventional AC setup. And you need not worry because there’s no need for any hulking contraption to convert direct electricity to alternating. The sun will be used to get your batteries operating, and nothing else.
There are convenient and easy-to-carry solar systems that include four or five-panel pop-up solar modules. Essentially, they look like small ladders with solar panels instead of steps. You just pop them up on the roof of the RV or in an area where the sun hits them. The systems tie directly into your batteries and power them up during the day. Easy, isn’t it?
Solar RV systems are very quiet, which gives them even more plus points. Usually, you would need a very loud generator to charge your RV batteries, and these could really make quite a racket. Even if you purchase a very quiet generator, it’ll almost be like living next to a club that features (talentless) metal bands night after night. On the contrary, solar systems are 100% quiet. There are no moving parts, just the sun beating down on the panels. You’ll never know they are even there.
If you regularly go on excursions on your RV, you may want to go with portable solar modules for daytime travel. It never hurts to save a few dollars on those rising gas prices.
