How To Remove Truck Stickers
Sometimes we go through phases where we think putting stickers on our vehicles is cool, and a great way to express some personality. However, once they start to fade, crack, or peel, we get tired of them. Peeling them off is not as easy as placing them was, and can leave unsightly remnants that devalue the vehicle. Here are some easy ways to remove truck stickers without requiring a new bumper.
If you are fortunate enough, you can simply unpeel the sticker after you spray something that greases the glue holding the sticker. There are a number of assorted products that can do this pretty easily, such as WD-40, cooking spray, and similar things. Be cautious, and if it does not look as if it will peel, do not attempt to push the issue, simply move on to the next choice.
Use a method that removes old wallpaper. Use a washrag or old towel and immerse it in hot soapy water for a few moments. Press the rag to the decal for no less than thirty seconds, and ensure that the entire sticker receives a decent drenching. It should then just peel away if the water is sufficiently hot.
A plastic spatula can sometimes be used to gently scrape off the pieces of paper if the sticker is already peeling on its own. A normal hair dryer is a great way to speed this process, and will help melt the glue holding the sticker in place. This does not always work for more recent additions, but may remove older stickers with ease.
By no means should you attempt to use a metal object to scrape the sticker. This includes razor blades or knives, because they usually result in terrible scratches and scuff marks. Make sure you utilize a tool that does not scrape the metal, such as a plastic spatula, or a putty knife encased in duct tape.
In some cases, a lint-free cloth and a bit of rubbing alcohol will remove the truck sticker very nicely. Dip the cloth in the rubbing alcohol, then rub it gently down the entire length of the bumper sticker. The alcohol helps get rid of the glue holding the sticker in place. Make sure it is a gentle cloth, or it could leave more lint than you want to have to deal with.
After the sticker is gone, you will want to shine up the bumper where it was at, and remove any light scratches left from the removal process. For this, you just need a nice polishing compound and some normal car wax. Buff the area, and wax as normal. If the sticker was on a window, use some window cleaner, or take the vehicle through a car washing station.
You can add a bit of additional value to a truck by doing away with old distasteful stickers and off the wall decals. If you purchased a used truck, it might not even be your individuality articulated. Removing the stickers can be a fantastic means of making a pre-owned truck feel more brand new to you, too.
