Choosing A Nationwide Automobile Shipping Company
If you are moving from state to state you may be taking your vehicle along with you. If you do not want to drive it to its final destination you may want to think about cheap auto transport shipping. In this case you need to figure out how to do this with as little worry as possible. There are a number of things you need to keep in mind and be aware of before you make a decision on which shipping company to use.
Before settling down on a company make sure you shop around for quotes. You can manually call different companies and ask what their prices cost. Make sure you are able to provide them with general information such as departure date, pick up and drop off destination as well as make and model of your car.
Different shipping companies have different payment methods. Some agencies require a deposit prior to pick-up, others may not. If you do post a deposit or wait to pay, full payment must be made on time of delivery. Usually cash or cashier’s check is the preferred method of payment by these companies. If you do use a credit card, you may be charged an additional fee.
If you ever have a problem with pick up or delivery and try to consult the company with a complaint they will always direct you back to the contract with your signature on it. So, before you sign any type of binding agreement make sure you have read the details of the contract. If you find that there is something missing in it, ask for an additional clause.
You can usually add a clause regarding pick up or delivery expectations. If you have made a deposit with the shipping company and have agreed on a pick up date, than that promise should be kept. If the company does not pick up with the specified period ask that you retract on your agreement without any cancellation fee.
Make sure your car is insurance against theft or damage. Talk to your own insurance agent about how your car is ensured during shipment. Also ask for a duplicate copy of the shipping company’s insurance policy. Ask if their insurance is primary or secondary to your own insurance company.
Personal belongings left in the interior of the car are usually not the responsibility of the shipping company. Your own car insurance does not cover that either. If damage occurs to your car from a heavy trunk load, they will not be held responsible for that either.
Before handing over your car to the company, ask that an initial inspection is given and you have the findings in writing. Once you receive your car at the destination point make sure to inspect it carefully. Take note of mileage on initial report and the mileage upon arrival.
In order to get a better feel for the company you will entrust your vehicle too, check their status with the Better Business Bureau in its area. They can usually give you the customer satisfaction history in addition to references. If possible, follow up with the references and ask about the company. The better prepared you are, the less hassle you will have in finding and dealing with a nationwide automobile shipping company.
